Answer: An Individualized Education Program (IEP) describes the educational program that has been designed to meet that child's unique needs.
Each child who receives special education and related services must have an IEP. Each IEP must be designed for one student and must be a truly individualized document.
The IEP creates an opportunity for teachers, parents, school administrators, related services personnel, and students (when age appropriate) to work together to improve educational results for children with disabilities.
The IEP is the cornerstone of a quality education for each child with a disability.
The Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a legally binding document.
The Individual Education Program/Plan (IEP) Simply put, an IEP is a written plan that will describe the program(s) and special services the student requires to be successful. It is a plan that ensures that proper programming is in place to help the student with special needs to be successful at school.
It is a working document that will be modified usually each term based on the ongoing needs of the student.
The IEP is developed collaboratively by school staff and parents as well as medical staff if appropriate.
An IEP will focus on social, academic and independence needs (daily living) depending on the area of need. It may have one or all three components. [add link]
Answer: 504 Education Plan provides classroom accommodations for students who need them
Answer: A 504 plan, which falls under civil-rights law, is an attempt to remove barriers and allow students with disabilities to participate freely; like the Americans With Disabilities Act, it seeks to level the playing field so that those students can safely pursue the same opportunities as everyone else.
An IEP, which falls under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, is much more concerned with actually providing educational services.
Students eligible for an IEP, or Individualized Education Plan, represent a small subset of all students with disabilities. They generally require more than a level playing field -- they require significant remediation and assistance, and are more likely to work on their own level at their own pace even in an inclusive classroom.
Only certain classifications of disability are eligible for an IEP, and students who do not meet those classifications but still require some assistance to be able to participate fully .
Answer: An IEP is an Individualized Education Program for children who qualify for special education services by their local public school district.
It is not an Individual Education Plan.
Why isn’t it a Plan?
As the old saying goes, “plans are made to be broken!”
A program on the other hand must be followed!!
Congress in their infinite wisdom got did one right.
It is a legally binding document that must be followed to the letter of the law and tailored to meet your child’s unique needs. [add link An IEP must include:]
